Portfolio
Students will gain an understanding of how clothing began. They will examine the social, economic, political and religious forces which have influenced the manner and style of dress throughout the centuries and gain knowledge of how historic clothing can serve as a basis for understanding the art, psychology, and moral attitudes in a historic context.
Course Outcomes:
Develop an understanding and appreciation for some historical events and customs of people as reflected in their clothing.
Become familiar with the names of some personalities who were prominent leaders and fashion arbiters in each era.
Learn costume terminology associated with each period.
Recognize those details which distinguish one costume period form another.
Understand the relationship between the mind and the apparel of individuals or groups of society in each period and how this relates to “us” in our day.
Design and construct a ½ scale costume from a chosen era and report on the construction, politics, and influences of the era.

For your Final Project, I have been asked to research a period within the years the textbook covers. I also was asked to create a Half Scale/Full-Scale accurate recreation of a garment from that era.
